The vitamin tablet containing the iron is dissolved in HCl to create a standard Fe solution. The pH of the Fe solution is adjusted by adding the sodium citrate drop by drop. The Fe solution is then reduced using hydroquinone, and then complexed using o-phenanthroline for the purpose of forming a red colored complex. The complexed Fe is then analyzed using a spectrometer.

Materials and Methodology A vitamin tablet was obtained and placed in a mL flask and boiled gently in the fume hood for 15 minutes with 25 mL of 6 M HCl. The solution was then filtered into a mL volumetric flask and cooled and diluted to the mark.
